Ana M. Amortegui, ADFC is a Colombian-born director of photography whose work demonstrates her eye for beautiful and meaningful images that understand camera and lighting.
Most recently, Amortegui, shot the feature “Undercard” directed by Tamika Miller and wrapped shooting the second season of NBC hit Quantum Leap.
Amortegui’s photography appears across television series including: Syfy’s Resident Alien; Netflix’s Worn Stories; Warner Bros. TV/The CW’s Black Lightning; BET’s Twenties; feature documentaries Heal; Imagining Zootopia for the Fusion Network; plus commercials for Disney and the United Nations.
Amortegui obtained a degree in electrical engineering while working as a professional dancer. With a passion spanning diverse disciplines, she found herself in demand as a choreographer on a variety of Colombian television series, where she became fascinated with the talent and skill of those behind the camera.
She graduated from The Art Institute of California in 2010 and entered Film Independent’s prestigious Project: Involve in 2009.
Additionally, Amortegui earned scholarships from Panavision and Arri to study Cinematography at the Maine Media workshops, and appeared on ICG Magazine’s Generation Next list in 2020.
Marvin Lemus’s Gente-fied, a web series lensed by Amortegui, premiered at Sundance in 2017.
With a strong visual storytelling approach, Amortegui prioritizes shots that affect emotions. She pays careful attention to the emotions she feels from each script. She lets her imagination run wild and translate her feelings into images, playing movies in her head as she reads.
Additionally, Amortegui utilizes research on themes, inspiration in music, still photography, art pieces and history to piece together superb images, colors, tone and other elements to help create a unique visual language she can share with her collaborators.
Amortegui is represented by World Production Agency (WPA) and is an IATSE Local 600 director of photography.
